Freight firm gives insight into how AGP has helped them grow

"FSEW has benefited from strategic visioning and business planning support from Business Wales' Accelerated Growth Programme"

Keeping the economy moving is the driving force behind the next company to feature in our blog series.

FSEW is a logistics and international freight forwarding company based at Freightliner in Wentloog, Cardiff and Northampton. Currently employing approximately 80 people, the company provides transport services to clients in the UK, Europe and around the world.

Here, FSEW founder Geoff Tomlinson tells his company's story and gives some tips to others venturing out on the entrepreneurial journey.

Tell us about FSEW
After identifying a gap in the market for a customer-orientated freight forwarding company, I launched FSEW in July 2002. My goal was for FSEW to provide a prompt, reliable and value-for-money service in the freight industry. And I used all my experience in the sector to lead the company towards that goal.

In 2005 we were named the fastest-growing company in Wales in the Fast Growth 50 and in 2006, we continued that fast-paced expansion when we were named the 11th fastest growing company in the same awards.

What are your proudest moments in business so far?
This year we won Tesco Collaborative Haulier of the Year. It was a massive boost and deserved recognition for the work we do. Awards like this are not only a boost to me, my leadership team and our hardworking staff – but also show to clients and potential clients that our business is a sector leader.

If you were starting again, what would you do differently?
What we do differently? We're confident enough to say nothing; everything is going to plan so far!

How has support from Business Wales AGP helped your business?
FSEW has benefited from strategic visioning and business planning support from our Business Wales AGP relationship manager. The company has also received specific coaching projects to identify property and relocation options and the development of grant applications for the installation of electric charging points.
